Wow, I didn't realize how long has it been since my last post. No, I did not abandon my blog - I have just been busy.
But I'm back, and I hope to be more regular in my postings.
Cheers.

Gems from my Inbox - Part 4
THE MAYONNAISE JAR AND COFFEE
When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours
in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar...and the
coffee...
A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in
front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large
and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He
then asked the students if the jar was full.
They agreed that it was.
So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into
the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open
areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the
jar was full.
They agreed it was.
The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar.
Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the
jar was full.
The students responded with a resounding "Yes!"
The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and
poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty
space between the sand.
The students laughed.
"Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided, " I want you to
recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the
important things - your God, your family, your children, your health,
your friends, your favorite passions - things that if everything else
was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The
pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, your
car. . . The sand is everything else - the small stuff."
"If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no
room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life If you
spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have
room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the
things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children.
Take time to get medical checkups. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play
another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the
disposal. Take care of the golf balls first, the things that really
matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."
One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee
represented.
The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked." he said. "It just goes to
show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room
for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend."

A second look at an old adage
In the context of employee termination, this old adage was cited: Be careful how you treat people on the way up, because you may meet them again on the way down.
Needless to say, this has a much broader application and not just in case of terminating an employee. It has relevant daily applicability - in the workplace, at home, in the mall, everywhere.
Personally, I think the reason given is not noble enough -'...because you may meet them again on the way down'. What about the intrinsic value of the person? Treat him with respect because he is a human being, period. Whether that benefits me or not, I owe it to that person because of his value as a human being.

Longing for an early Spring
As I look outside, it is actually sunny with a thin overcast. Today is a lot better than what it had been the previous days. Winter has its unique beauty and all, but you can't fault me if I prefer sunny and warmer times. You see I originally came from the tropics and that explains my preference.
One thing I am learning as a christian is to look at things from a spiritual perspective. That if I am living in obedience to God, there are no accidents in my life. Everything has a purpose - that even what appears to be the worst can ultimately result in something good, because He looks after me, takes care of me, and every moment is an opportunity for me to be transformed into what He wants me to become.
So summer, spring, autumn, and yes winter have their purpose and their uniqueness is an instrument that God uses to fulfill His will in my life.
But then, I long for Spring!

Pagan or not, let's observe Valentine's Day
When I was a child, a learned a song, a line of which goes something like, "It's love, it's love, it's love that makes the world go 'round..."
Today, February 14, is Valentine's Day. It has been said that this observance has its origin in a Roman pagan rite. True or not, I'd like to think of it this way - any observance that encourages me to think of love and creatively express it, is a good thing, don't you think so?
If you agree with me, let us be agents of love today, tomorrow and always. Let's have a lot of it to go 'round.
Have a happy one, fellow bloggarts!

Positive Blogs
I have only been blogging for a little over a month and overall I must say that the experience has been positive. There have been a number of blogs that have caught my attention because of their praiseworthy messages.
One such blog is "Another Man's Meat". It's excellently written and reading it has been worth my while.
A noteworthy banner I saw tonight has this message: If you want to work for world peace, go home and love your families. It's a quote from Mother Theresa.
To owners of those blogs and hundreds of uncited others, a very sincere "Thank You". You have such an impact on many more than you know. Keep it up.

What I learned...
...from a business retreat I'd just been on..
With the theme, "Cruising Into the Future", our president underscored the challenge of constant change that we have to deal with. From all the presentations that each VP had to do, I came up with this quote:
"HE WHO RESISTS CHANGE, WILL CRUISE INTO OBLIVION"
Think of businesses that have gone under. Many if not all have resisted the inevitable CHANGE that's inherent in the adaption of new technology. You've heard this before: We have always done it this way, we're not gonna change it now.

I'm Back!
I just came back from a dual-purpose trip - pleasure and business. Whew! it was brief and went fast.
It was a cruise that took me to Fort Lauderdale, Key West and Cozumel, Mexico. It was my first cruise experience and thoroughly enjoyed it.
The food was sumptuously superb and the nightly shows were fantastic. The service was first-rate and the crew was friendly and always willing to make your cruise memorable. The ship? GTS SUMMIT of the Celebrity Cruise Lines.

A stained finger - a symbol of freedom and democracy
To all freedom-loving people of the world:
Mark January 30, 2005 on your calendar as a historic day and let's celebrate with the Iraqi people.
The images I see on TV are very moving - jubilant Iraqis flocking in and out of polling places showing their stained fingers as if to say, "I took part in carving the destiny of my country today in a democratic way."
Kudos to the Iraqi people. All peace-loving citizens of the world salute you.
Blogville Drive - A new street in Blogdom

Gmail, anyone?
I've got four available so if you want one, send me an email.
Talking about email, I've overheard someone who said, "Email is one of the best things that ever happened since sliced bread. Oh yes, email has indeed made communication convenient and speedy, but do you agree that to a certain degree it has impersonalized our way of communication?
Consider these:
Instead of picking up the phone to call someone, you send an email.
Instead of going to the next door office to greet a co-employee, you send an email.
Your mom's dying to hear your voice on her birthday, she heard, "You've got mail" instead.
Gone is the warmth and the passion that verbal communication brings, because of email.
But email is here to stay, Oh well.

Say a prayer for Iraq
I urge, then, first of all that...prayers...be made for everyone- for kings, and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives... 1 Timothy 2:1 (NIV)

TGIF (Thank God It's Funny)
Jack wakes up with a huge hangover after attending his company’s Christmas Party. Jack is not normally a drinker, but the drinks didn’t taste like alcohol at all. He didn’t even remember how he got home from the party. As bad as he was feeling, he wondered if he did something wrong. Jack had to force himself to open his eyes, and the first thing he sees is a couple of aspirins next to a glass of water on the side table. And, next to them, a single red rose!
Jack sits up and sees his clothing in front of him, all clean and pressed. He looks around the room and sees that it is in perfect order, spotlessly clean. So is the rest of the house. He takes the aspirins, cringes when he sees a huge black eye staring back at him in the bathroom mirror. Then he notices a note hanging on the corner of the mirror written in red with little hearts on it and a kiss mark from his wife in lipstick!: “Honey, breakfast is on the stove, I left early to go get groceries to make you your favorite dinner tonight. I love you, darling!”
He stumbles to the kitchen and sure enough, there is hot breakfast, steaming hot coffee and the morning newspaper. His son is also at the table eating. Jack asks, “Son… what happened last night?”
“Well, you came home after 3 A.M., drunk and out of your mind. You fell over the coffee table and broke it, and then you puked in the hallway, and got that black eye when you ran into the door.”
Confused he asked his son, “So, why is everything in such perfect order, so clean, I have a rose, and breakfast is on the table waiting for me?”
His son replies, “Oh THAT!… Mom dragged you to the bedroom, and when she tried to take your pants off, you screamed, “Leave me alone, lady, I’m married!”

The Brain
In the hospital the relatives gathered in the waiting room, where
their family member lay gravely ill. Finally, the doctor came in looking
tired and somber. "I'm afraid I'm the bearer of bad news," he said as he
surveyed the worried faces. "The only hope left for your loved one at
this time is a brain transplant. It's an experimental procedure,
semi-risky and you will have to pay for the brain yourselves."
The family members sat silent as they absorbed the news. After a great length of time, someone asked, "Well, how much does a brain cost?" The doctor quickly responded, "$5,000 for a male brain, and $200 for a female brain."
The moment turned awkward. Men in the room tried not to smile, avoiding eye contact with the women, but some actually smirked. A man, unable to control his curiosity, blurted out the question everyone wanted to ask, Why is the male brain so much more?" The doctor smiled at the childish innocence and so to the entire group said, "It's just standard pricing procedure. We have to mark down the price of the female brains, because they've actually been used."

That time is NOW
By now everybody knows the passing away of Johnny Carson. Relatives, friends, acquaintances, public figures and fans have a lot of good things to say about him as a person and as an entertainer, and that's GOOD.
Recently, I went to a funeral service for a friend's mother. Eulogies poured in as people paid their last respects, and that's GOOD.
But why do we wait until someone passes away before we say what we say at the wake or funeral service?
Let us resolve to tell our loved ones - parents, brothers, sisters, spouses, children, friends, etc.- NOW that we admire, respect, appreciate and love them.

Gems from my Inbox - Part 3
Take this quiz: (you don't actually have to take the quiz - just read straight through)
1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.
2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.
3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America contest.
4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer prize.
5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners
for best actor and actress.
6. Name the last decade's worth of World Series winners.
How did you do?
The point is, most of us (except perhaps Ken Jennings) don't remember the headliners of yesterday.
These are no second-rate achievers. They are the best in
their fields.
But the applause dies. Awards tarnish. Achievements are forgotten.
Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.
Here's another quiz. See how you do on this one:
1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.
2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.
3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.
4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated
and special.
5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.
6. Name half a dozen heroes whose stories have inspired you.
Easier?
The lesson:
The people who make a difference in your life are
not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most
awards. They are the ones that care.

For a friend: A birthday prayer
May the Lord teach you
To number your days
That you may apply your heart
Unto wisdom.
May He satisfy you
Early with His mercy
That you may rejoice
And be glad all your days.
And let the beauty of the Lord
Our God be upon you
And establish the works
Of your hands.
Amen.

Axis of Virtue
Proverbs 22:4
Humility and fear of the Lord bring wealth and honor and life.
WEALTH...HONOR...LIFE Who doesn't want them? Aren't those what we strive for?
Volumes have been written about where and how to achieve them. Vast bandwidth is devoted to "selling" these. Late night and early morning infomercials dominate the tube with each one claiming to have found the KEY.
The inspired Word plainly states what bring this to us - Humility and Fear of the Lord.

From 'Bloglines' to "Bloggart Journal"
While surfing the 'net' a few minutes ago, I found out that there is a site called "Bloglines" which you can even subscribe to. So I'm changing the name of my blog to "Bloggart Journal". I don't want to be accused of 'stealing' someone else's title, so Bloggart Journal it's gonna be starting today, January 20, 2005.

Messages from a Mug
While washing a mug given to me the other day, I noticed the following printed on it:
No dreamer is ever too small; no dream is ever too big.
Practice random beauty and senseless acts of love.
Happiness is not given but exchanged.
Truth fears no questions.
Dare to be wise.
Laugh.
I thought these are worth sharing to all fellow bloggarts.
Rice overshadowed Roe
The confirmation hearing of Dr. C. Rice has dominated the media the last few days. Perhaps that's one reason why this story got sidelined. Please read and if you care, share the link around.

Gems from my Inbox - Part 2
For today and always
"But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on
FAITH and LOVE as breastplate, and HOPE of SALVATION as helmet."
I Thessalonians 5:8
1. TODAY, I WILL NOT STRIKE BACK
If someone is rude, impatient, and unkind, I will not respond in a
like manner.
2. TODAY, I WILL ASK GOD TO BLESS ANYONE WHO HARBORS GRUDGES TOWARDS ME
If I come across "someone" who treats me harshly or unfairly, I will
quietly ask GOD to bless that person (and me). I understand that
that
"someone" ccould be family member, neighbor, co-worker, friend, or a stranger.
3. TODAY, I WILL BE CAREFUL ABOUT WHAT I SAY
I will carefully choose and guard my words being certain that I do
not spread gossip.
4. TODAY, I WILL GO THE EXTRA MILE
I will find ways to help share the burden of another person.
5. TODAY, I WILL FORGIVE
I will forgive any hurts or injuries that come my way.
6. TODAY, I WILL DO SOMETHING NICE FOR SOMEONE, BUT I WILL DO IT SECRETLY
I will reach out anonymously and bless the life of another.
7. TODAY, I WILL TREAT OTHERS THE WAY I WISH TO BE TREATED
I will practice the golden rule- do not do unto others what you dont
want others do unto you- with everyone I encounter.
8. TODAY, I WILL RAISE THE SPIRIT OF SOMEONE WHO IS DISCOURAGED
My smile , my words , my expression of support , can make the
difference to someone who is wrestling with life.
9. TODAY, I WILL NURTURE MY BODY
I will eat less (easy for those on diet, he, he, he), I will eat
only healthy foods. I will thank God for my body.
10.TODAY, I WILL GROW SPIRITUALLY
I will spend a little more time in prayer today, thanking our Father
for the smallest of blessing He gave me today; I will begin reading
something spiritual or inspirational today; I will find a quiet
place at some point during this day and listen to God's voice!!!
PS: ... and today, I will tell my loved ones (esp. my parents, while
they can still hear me) how I appreciate their existence in my
life, that I LOVE THEM...
"seize the day! say I love you but only if you mean it, while
we still have the chance, we'll never know, our loved ones will not be here
forever..."
" Have a nice week ahead of us, and a good life every single day... "

"seize the day! say I love you but only if you mean it, while
we still have the chance, we'll never know, our loved ones will not be here
forever..."
" Have a nice week ahead of us, and a good life every single day... "
When customer service does'nt leave a sour taste in your mouth
Satisfactory customer service nowadays is few and far between, but when we receive it I think we should definitely acknowledge it.
I ordered some materials from Nazarene Publishing House (Kansas) last December 21 which I never received although it was promptly shipped. Telephoned them today to request for a replacement. A lady who took my call, Joyce Bishop, was very nice and promised to send it today by FEDEX.
Thank you, Joyce.

Me? An ambassador?? You must be joking!
Billy Graham, perhaps, but certainly not me!
Yet,the apostle Paul in one of his letters to the Corinthian church said that believers are ambassadors for Christ. That is an indicative statement - you don't choose to be, you already are by virtue of making Him your Savior and Lord.
It is a challenge to live as one, for it means accurately representing Him to the world. After all, that's what the word "christian" means - like Christ.
A christian, is a christian not because he's got religion but because he made a decision to make Christ his Savior and Lord, and lives his life in accordance with His teachings.
He is a believer, a disciple, and yes, an ambassador.

Musing at Dawn
It’s not uncommon for me to be awakened at around 3 or 4AM by a persistent thought or idea. Most of the time a toss dismisses it and back to sleep I go.
This morning was different. The thought would not let me go. It’s about being…becoming..
Being a person who can think, feel, react - make choices.
Becoming the person I was created to be, and leave a mark in the process.
Living a life that makes a difference for the better, helping others discover what they ought to be.
That they too, will see their being..and becoming..

Gems from my Inbox Part 1 - "God, speak to me"
Unless it's obviously junk, I don't automatically trash incoming mail. Lately, I've been doing some Inbox housecleaning and I am amazed at how much good stuff friends have sent me over the years. Here's one:
The man whispered, "God, speak to me."
And a meadowlark sang.
But the man did not hear.
So the man yelled "God, speak to me"
And the thunder & lightning rolled across the sky.
But the man did not listen.
The man looked around and said, "God, let me see you."
And a star shone brightly.
But the man did not see.
And, the man shouted, "God, show me a miracle."
And a life was born.
But the man did not notice.
So, the man cried out in despair, "Touch me, God
And let me know you are here."
Whereupon, God reached down and touched the man.
But the man brushed the butterfly away and walked on.
How much of God have you missed? He's speaking to you now.
Listen.

Spring and Winter Collide
Wow! Today it's 18 degrees celcius and if you know canadian weather, that's spring-like and I don't complain. It will be short-lived though because the weatherman says temperature is expected to plummet this evening.
It was great to see the highway snow-free and the drive to work comparatively pleasant and uneventful.
"In everything, Give thanks..."

Today my Dell has come! Today my Dell has come!
My sleepless nights are finally over! The Purolator guy came at 18:49 hours with My Dell notebook. Needless to say, I could not contain my excitement - I just had to open the box - unpeeled it - and a couple of restarts later, I find myself composing this proud announcement.
My tool/toy will undoubtedly give me a lot of convenience and accessibility until the next "upgrade".
Time to go and play! Ciao.

Can You Claim the Promise?
The mother of a friend died recently. An uncle of a co-employee also passed away almost on the same day.
Death. It's something we don't want to think about, and yet, we're a day closer to it today than yesterday. It's a destination we are all bound for and journey toward it, consciously or unconsciously.
What is beyond it? If it is true that death is a door that opens to another dimension of existence, what is on the other side of that door?
Jesus' claim comes to mind: I am the Resurrection and the Life. He who believes in me though he were dead, yet shall he live unto eternal life.
Can you claim His promise? Consider His other claim: I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one can come to the Father except through Me.

Imagine what the world is going to be like
If we heed this advice:
In everything, do to others what you would have them do to you...Matthew 7:12 (NIV).
Have a good weekend, fellow bloggarts!

Someday my Dell will come, someday my Dell will come!
Since I placed online an order for a Dell notebook, I have been checking on a daily basis when the expected delivery would be. For days it had been showing as "in production", but tonight it tells me that it has been shipped. Great! This is the 3rd computer I have purchased from Dell.
It is a centrino-powered 17" widescreen notebook with 2Ghz of processing speed. The operating system is Windows XP professional with 512meg of DDR RAM. This will definitely be a toy/tool that will serve my needs for the next while.

Treachery in Toronto
It wasn't so bad as I initially thought it would be, but I am one who never likes snowy weather anyway. The forecast was snow followed by freezing rain for most of the day, so I came to work earlier than usual. The drive was slow but steady and thank God, no vehicular accidents along the way.

Traffic Jam Can be Sweet
Here's a scenario:
You commute to work everyday. Whether you drive or take public transportation, seldom do you get to your workplace without being caught in some sort of traffic jam along the way. While you're in the midst of it, what do you normally do?
I live about 40 kilometers away from work, which on a good day takes me 20 -35 minutes to drive. On average, it takes me an hour to an hour and a half factoring in traffic and all. I used to get uptight about being caught in such a mess, but over the years I have learned that I ultimately have two choices: allow the situation to make me the person I ought to be or the opposite. I now use such situations for prayer, communing with God, and singing praise and worship songs. "Making melody in your heart..." is way better than cursing, pounding your dashboard in frustration or nailbiting.

Our Personal Inbox
Who doesn't have to deal with junk and/or spam mail daily with anti-virus software and firewall installed notwithstanding?
Lately, I had to delete 3000+ of junk and spam mail after only a week of being away from my work. So it's not an exaggeration to say that I deal with this infestation everyday. Oh yes, we do have an IT team that looks after this but even then, no one is totally insulated from it.
Think about it, our mind is similar in many ways to our email app's Inbox. Are we vigilant enough to filter out negativity or any harmful thoughts that cross our minds? Are we smart enough not to dwell on these?

Billboard Sign
While driving to work today, I noticed this sign, "You are judged by the company you keep".
It's true, isn't it? We live in a world where decisions are generally made based on polls or what the majority thinks. We judge people based on their skin color, educational attainment, where they live, political affiliation, etc. This is unfortunate but it's the reality.
Jesus was derogatorily called, "a friend of sinners" when seen with the outcast. He was judged as one of them. Today, we still make the same mistake. We should refrain from stereotyping people. We should reserve judgment until we have enough information to make it objectively, fairly and wisely.

Feeling Lost in Blogworld
My curiosity made me spend a good couple of hours browsing blogs on this site. Although I consider myself internet-savvy to a certain degree, I had ignored web logs until today. I knew so little about it (I still do), but at least I have been able to successfully set up my very own blog and I feel a sense of achievement.
So what has blog-browsing taught me so far? That one is free to write anything. Express your thoughts; unburden your heart; make a stand for or against; the possibility is boundless.
What will I write about? Will I be able to do it regularly? Fellow bloggarts, I have warned you - it's going to be a hodgepodge.

My first try at "Blogging"
Okay, everyone's doing it so why not I (or is it me?)?
It's one of those things that intrigues me and piques my curiosity especially recently. So, today I accessed the Yahoo search engine and typed, "how to create a blog" and got a kilometer of links. The Blogger site looked attractive enough and appeared to be the one that could initiate me into this. Several clicks later, I'm into my first try.
Will this be a success? Time will tell.
Cheers to all the bloggarts!
